This multidisciplinary CBCT course covers both level 1 and level 2, but please note you have to book the events separately. You can attend only one level should you wish.

Level 1 is intended to train dentists who prescribe CBCT imaging, such that they may request appropriately and understand the resultant reported images.
Date: Thursday 31 October 2024.

Level 2 is intended to train to a more advanced level and covers the understanding and skills needed to justify, carry out and interpret a CBCT examination. Please note you have to bring your own laptop for level 2 only.
Date: Friday 1 November 2024.

What to expect – Level 1

Level 1 is intended to train dentists who prescribe CBCT imaging, such that they may request appropriately and understand the resultant reported images.

Participants should have attended an IRMER course within the past five years and this course is designed for registered clinicians. This course will give an overview of current requirements and guidelines for CBCT. This course complies with guidance produced by FGDP (UK) and PHE on radiation protection. The course is delivered by an experienced consultant in dentomaxillofacial radiology supported by a panel of experts from UCLan.

Learning objectives – Level 1

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the differences between 2D and 3D imaging
  • Describe the role of CBCT in diagnosis and treatment planning
  • Discuss indications, limitations and risks
  • Discuss responsibilities of CBCT referrer
  • Explain selection criteria for CBCT imaging
  • Recognise normal anatomy and common imaging artifacts
  • Understand legal and ethical responsibilities as Referrer, Practitioner and Operator.
